as many of you may know, i am actually a picky eater. i would like to say that it is mostly a texture thing but lately seth has been pointing out that i don't really like to try things. that is why about 3 weeks ago i got talked into trying sushi. i actually tried it a long long time ago and spit it out. but this time i loved it!

i don't think i could eat just any sushi but the college roll at O Asian Fusion is delish! it had tempura shrimp in it which added another element to the texture which was very pleasing.

on another note- i am a big fan of Sweet Basil and pretty much swear by their pineapple fried rice. it is hard to find anything that compares. The first time we went to O Asian Fusion I must have missed it on the menu but to my great surprise i discovered they do have pineapple fried rice! it comes with shrimp and chicken and it is the biggest heaping pile of rice i have ever seen. it was no Sweet Basil but definitely up there. i will tell you that it came with raisins. i only like raisins of the chocoloate-covered form so i wasn't very happy when they joined us for dinner. raisins are not listed on the menu as part of this dish so condsider yourself warned.

lastly i would like to encourage everyone to try O Asian Fusion. i know that it is in an old pizza hut but once you get inside all you'll be able to say is how you can't believe it used to be a pizza hut! the food is wonderful and you get to watch the sushi man prepare your sushi if you sit at the sushi bar. they have a full bar and huge menu of yummy things to check out.

today i've been married for six months. being able to say that i am married at all still seems so surreal. but that it has now been six months seems crazy. it has gone by so fast but also has felt like forever (in a good way). love you husband.

just a little update. i know i said a while back that seth and i were going to try a new recipe once a week. well, we are failing royally at this.

seth's birthday was (wow almost 2 weeks ago) february 8th. i made him biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

i made this for him 4 years earlier (when i wasn't even sure if he liked me but i was crashing on his couch hoping he did) and it was terrible. i had never made gravy before. well. this time was a little better. i really should have practiced sometime in the last 4 years since this is seth's favorite breakfast but i didn't and the gravy turned out ok but i undercooked the biscuits. boo. regardless, it was fun waking up with him, eating breakfast and opening his gifts.

i got him this awesome set of vintage science encyclopedias and a clock to add to his clock collection.

on friday we went out to eat with friends to celebrate his birth and since every celebration should have a cake, i made my february cake.

nothing special. yellow cake with chococlate frosting and sprinkles. it tasted rather delightful but i didn't leave myself enough time to get fancier with the decorations so i have come to the conclusion that i need to do some practicing before my next cake.

since then we have also celebrated valentine's day.

i made seth cookies and got him this print off etsy.

seth got me the above (oh so pretty) dragon's bone and book i had been eying from Birdie. what great gifts!

we celebrated by going to benvenuti's (only the best high-class* italian in town. *i included high-class because victoria's is up there, it's just more down-to-earth italian).

beyond this our time has consisted of trying to figure out what we are doing with our lives, trying to get porter trained, and hanging out with our friends. hopefully we'll fit a new recipe in there sometime soon.

my sister turned 24

my beautiful sister, jordan love, turned 24 last friday. seth and i made the trip to fayetteville despite the snow and took the fryer so jo could have a deep fry birthday. it was a blast. things we breaded ourselves and friend were squash, zucchini, asparagus, green beans, broccoli, ravioli, red peppers, mushrooms, cheese cubes and fried chicken. For these we used an egg wash seasoned with pepper and flour breading seasoned with a pinch of cinammon. My favorites were the squash, zucchini, broccoli and ravioli. The cheese cubes didn't really work. the cheese melted into the breading so when you bit into it the cube was hollow...sort of bizarre. things we fried that we bought in the freezer section (is that cheating?) were jalapeno poppers, corn nuggets and sweet potato fries. all of these were a hit...so yummy!

desserts turned out to be a little trickier. most of the things were really soft so the heat of the fryer just melted them but we can't say we failed at trying. we made a sweet batter that we tried dipping things in but it only worked out occasionally. we then attempted an egg wash, seasoned with vanilla and flour breading mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon (this didn't work everytime either). we found that if the items were frozen they turned out much better. we did bananas, cookie dough, cheesecake bites, reeses peanut butter cups, brownies, funnel cakes and the most interesting thing we fried were oatmeal cream pies. bananas were good, cookie dough didn't work every time but when it did it was quite tasty (same with cheesecake), the reeses peanut butter cups basically disintegrated and the oatmeal cream pies were a hit.

her party was so fun. the deep fry was such an interesting spin on a party and the dancing (had to dance off all that fried food) at the end made the entire night.

The word that comes to mind when I think of Margo is VIBRANT.
Vibrant in beauty. Vibrant in the way she lit up a room. Vibrant in the way she carried herself. Vibrant in the way she spoke. Vibrant in the way she danced. Vibrant in the way she interacted with others. Vibrant with her talents. Vibrant in personality. Vibrant in the way she saw the world. Vibrant in the way she made people feel. Vibrant in the way she loved. Vibrant in the way she lived.

We tried to say goodbye to her on Friday but honestly i hope i never fully say goodbye or accept that she is gone. She lived everyday to the fullest, appreciating the details of each day and every person she encountered. She had a way about making someone feel like the most important person in town. i am beyond blessed to have gotten to know her. i am heartbroken that i won't get to have another glass of wine or dance party with her. i think she has inspired all of us to live more, to never take a day for granted. thank you for that Margo Colby O'Mealey.

today was liz's birthday. she is one of my most favorite people in norman, if not the world. we celebrated liz's birth this past saturday.

i made a list of 27 things to do before i turn 27 (i know dorky....but also really inspiring...you should try it) and baking a cake once a month until then was one of the things i decided to do. i happened upon a blog post (can't remember exactly where) of someone who was going to do this as their new year's resolution and i thought it sounded like fun. i always wish i could make beautiful cakes. since this was my first true 'fancy' cake and since i am really just interested in learning how to decorate the cake i just used a box mix and left it super plain (a girl needs to learn the basics before she gets crazy, right?!).

seth and i also were trying to make a new recipe once a week (a new year's resolution that we are already having trouble keeping) and since it hadn't worked out all week, i made enchiladas from scratch for liz's birthday fiesta. i used the zesty chicken enchilada recipe from real simple. seth is a pro when it comes to enchiladas and he thought they were quite tasty (i did too, i'm just not an enchilada pro).

i don't think i have ever cooked with tomatillos before but they are so pretty and quite delicious if i might say so.

i almost forgot! i had to shred a chicken. ewwwww. i should preface this by saying that i don't like to eat meat with bones in it let alone dig inside a slimy, bony, whole chicken. ewwww. this was a big accomplishment for me.

since it was a fiesta we also broke out the fryer and made soapapillas. i think i might have liked the beignets better. we were trying to stretch the dough so they ended up a little small and deformed. they were good. but i think we will have to try soapapillas again for sure.

with all this caking and cooking and frying... needlesstosay. i was in the kitchen for most of the day on saturday... but it was all very gratifying (and tasty).

saturday night ended with a lot of crazy dancing and definitely a lot of laughter.

since my days of willingly becoming unemployed i have been helping out at stash once in a while. this is a cool place. i was there on monday and drooled over about 10 things i would gladly have taken home with me in a heart beat if space or the bank account would allow me.

cool things at stash include beautifully packaged soap, cool old keys, lovely vintage scarves, a luscious ice bucket*, cool cards to give to loved ones*, oklahoma oil well pencil sharpeners*, a diner-esque straw holder, a wonderful beveled glass decanter*, cool potted succulents* (from green couch design), a really cool collection of bookends, gnomes for your garden, i mean the list goes on. and on. and on.

seth and i woke up early this morning. well if you call 8:45am early....we wanted to make it to the OU surplus store (only open on wednesdays) before all the good stuff was gone. i am currently in the market for a shelf and/or filing cabinet to organize all my Pistachio supplies. Usually you can always find something to make your heart smile at the surplus store. today was no exception. there was this ridiculous glass case with two stuffed iguanas placed in a natural (but fake) habitat. this definitely made our hearts smile. we sort of made fun of it but then to our dismay we saw someone carrying it out. we hope that they bought it for a joke (because it was pretty ridiculous). and we also wish that we would have taken a photo of it.

today we didn't find anything. boo, i know. but in the past we have found some of our favorite chairs, fun desk accessories, a chalkboard the size of texas, the list goes on. i think our favorite find was this beautiful couch and its matching chair. not that we needed another couch (because we didn't!!!). but for $65 how do you pass up something so cool looking? i guess when you love something you make room for it in your life because i made room for the couch in my work room.

being the treasure hunter that i am i wasn't satisfied walking away from the surplus store empty handed so i talked seth into going to the Habitat for Humanity REstore. this place is really hit or miss. i have found a couple true gems here in the past though. the chandelier (which i plan on owning until the day i die) that we hung over our cake table at the wedding was from here along with a couple other more practical items (ie. coffee table).

today there was this amazing buffet and china display case. i wanted it so bad. already having way too much furniture we couldn't justify bringing it home. i am not sure what it is actually worth but it seemed like a steal of a deal. i told the ladies at Stash they needed to have it.

the other amazing thing that they had was the below light fixture. i loved the big globes so much i just couldn't leave without it. there is no better way to update your home than to hang new light fixtures and our bedroom is crying for us to rid it of its ugly ceiling fan. i know this type of light fixture is typically hung in a dining room but we are going to give it a new coat of paint and try it out in our bedroom*.

seth and i made chili one night last week. it was delicious despite the lack of spices. i think the copy of the recipe i was going off had been copied and jotted down one too many times. it didn't list any of the spices that should have been in there. seth and i, being the amateur chefs that we are, didn't realize until we were eating it.

like i said it was still very satisfying but seth and i decided that our joint new year's resolution would be to try a new recipe every week. i am sure we'll be picking up a pizza or chinese after failed attempts but i am excited. our weekly challenge sounds like a fun adventure to take with someone you love.

do you ever just have a day that's 'not the best'? where you're in a funk? seth and i had one of those yesterday. to try and change the course of our day we picked up a most delicious whoopie pie from Crimson and Whipped Cream. They have amazing pastries.

they were also so kind to make our wedding cake and use seth's grandma ann's red velvet cake recipe.

if you need some treats for a special occasion or just a pick me up in the middle of the day - check them out. ps. their chocolate chip cookies are amazing. and they serve coffees too.

The Fryer

I got Seth a fryer for Christmas (maybe not the best thing for new year's resolutions). First fryer use: beingets. We used Paula Dean's French Quarter Beignet recipe. They were delicious.

The dough was a cinch to make and it took all of 5 minutes to prepare them once they were in the fryer. What a fun and yummy way to end a dinner party! Next time we want to try them with cinnamon and sugar. Our list of things we want to fry keeps growing and growing. I'll continue to post our frying adventures.

it feels like i have been super busy lately. you might be saying that's silly because i don't have a job to get up and report to everyday. well between spending time with the husband, friends and family, getting Pistachio going again, and the holidays - time has just been flying.

i feel like i have been saying that phrase a lot... "and this is my life." maybe because of the way every room in our house has boxes piled up. or because the kitchen is still a mess from 3 days ago. or because our pantry is bare and i have been trying to make it to target for 5 days now. or because both our cars are filled to the brim with more stuff to pile up in the house.

regardless of these things i don't really have much to complain about. this morning i am drinking coffee, eating a ginger cookie (both from gray owl - mmm, good!) and i love this weather. i spent some quality time with the sisters and mother yesterday and most of my evenings lately have consisted of snuggles on the couch while watching madmen.

i live a pretty posh life.

the entire honeymoon was the perfect balance of fun, relaxation and adventure. we ate great food, lounged by the water, felt our toes in the sand, encountered some wildlife, napped, snorkeled, read, jet skied, played cards and laughed. first week as mrs. seth scott is one i will never forget.

that saturday on the end is september 25th. yes, the day. our day. the BIG day. the day we've been planning for 8 months now. we checked the farmer's almanac. it said it was going to be a clear day. i have been preparing myself all along for rain, but not for thunderstorms. what do you do when there are thunderstorms, is it even safe for people to be under a tent during a thunderstorm? i guess the weather men are always wrong?

Liz Darter, the now Liz Evans, was married on Saturday! What?! I know....it is hard to believe that August 7th has come and gone. It was such a big deal to me because I was very fortunate to get to join in on a lot of the planning with Liz. She was so beautiful. Like cover of Vogue. Jarod was so cool & handsome and the wedding and reception were so them. Simple, yet so amazing in the details. The night was one to remember and my neck still hurts from dancing so hard.

do you ever love something so much you feel dorky about it? i think this one is warranted but i still feel giddy when i think about someone giving me something this amazing. i have been having some bad days lately. bad in the sense that they are busy - too busy and i don't foresee an end to these days anytime soon. but....lately when i'm at work (because this is where most of my bad days originate) i look down at this thing on my finger and i can't help but see past these busy days and into my future. it is very calming and i am so (!) looking forward to some calm days (especially as mrs. scott!). and that thing is gorgeous.

Last weekend our dear friends from NY came all the way down to help us celebrate our engagement. apparently the 'surprise' had been in the works for quite some time. i cannot express how special seth and i felt the entire weekend. i am not very good at people fussing over me but it doesn't get any better than spending time with close friends all weekend.

we danced our tooshes off, ate mexican food, drank margaritas. the weekend was magical (minus seth getting sick during the party).thank you to katie, elliott & julie for making the trip here. thanks to jarod, liz & jordan for coordinating the whole thing.

Lately my life has been slightly consumed with wedding plans. i love planning and events (weddings would be my obvious favorite) and everything that comes along with it. i am extremely excited to be planning my own wedding but decisions are hard to make. planning a birthday party or shower or work function is all easy because you know at some point in your life you will plan another. weddings. yes. hopefully at some point i will help people plan these all the time. but. this is the only wedding i will plan that is a reflection of my life (my life with seth!) and decision making is hard. i think we are checking things off our list rather nicely but then i always start to second guess myself. mostly when it comes to things that cost a pretty penny :) sometimes i get embarrassed that i love [wedding] planning so much...it seems like that is what every [snotty] girl wants to do at some point in their life but snotty or not i have decided to embrace one of the things that makes me happy so sorry if i talk about weddings or get a little too excited if you have an occasion in your life that calls for a celebration!

seth asked me to spend the rest of my life with him 2 weeks ago today. i haven't posted about it because - well - i feel like anything i post isn't worthy. i will say there is nothing like the knowledge that you are in the presence of the person who will be your better half for the rest of your life. i am so excited that that person for me is mr. joshua seth scott.

seth proposed on february 8th - seth says he got a fiance for his birthday (which i love). we were in griffith park for a picnic where seth gave me flowers, a shot of tequila (cheers! to the rest of our lives) and a gorgeous ring!

s: will you marry me?
d: yes!
s: you want to me my wife...?
d: duh!

the whole day was magical! we both love to throw parties...and now we get to plan what will be the best party our lives...our wedding!

1. oklahoma has officially experienced either a) winter storm #2 -or- b) winter storm #1 2010. the ice and snow are so beautiful it is funny how they can cause such distress. i secretly love being stranded though.

2. i am making some fun valentiney things. a) some actual valentines that incorporate...yep...you guessed it mustaches -and- b) some messages in a bottle. if any boys actually read this you should try and get one for your honey. they are miniature little messages of love and due to their miniatureness they are super cute.

3. seth and i go to los angeles in less than a week. if anyone has any suggestions like a) the best restaurant you've ever eaten at b) a place to get a killer dessert c) your favorite place to purchase cool things or d) all of the above --- we would to have your secret intel so please send your knowledge our way.

4. dustbowl is back in my life and i couldn't be more excited about it. this time we are teaming up with norman music festival to create a mind blowing arts market to be enjoyed in between, before, after or even while you are listening to some damn good music. if you are a crafter or an artist or know someone that is and would like to be a part visit our website and download an application.

i know that i haven't written in a while. sometimes it seems so silly to me to get on here and write what is going on in my life (maybe i'm just lazy)...but isn't that the point of a blog? whether it is things i enjoy or things i do or things i hope to do. i need to write it down. it makes it easier to remember - plus seth and i have already decided we have memory loss.

so. this weekend i went to bunko. it was mexican bunko so how could i resist. we drank margaritas and ate salsa and rolled dice. it was a blast. to spare you all the details (i yelled whoppee a lot & spilled a margarita on the carpet of someone i had just met) i believe i am now a member of a bunko group. this makes me feel slightly older (i think only because you hear stories about your grandma playing bunko) but i think it gives me something to look forward to every month. thanks lizard.

after bunko i made a stop at the brancho show which was actually at a house. brancho is this new, up and coming (?!?!?)punk band. you should really check them out. they are so new though i don't know where to tell you to check them out. the band consists of ryan, ben, nathan & jonathan. all great musicians trying their hand at something different. love them for that.

then we stopped at a party where i felt like a college kid all over again. showing up at a house, not knowing who even lives there, being introduced to new people and having had one too many drinks to remember all their names.

it was a fun night. one i don't want to forget :)

Weekend was pretty close to perfect.

1. Grand Opening Party at Birdie! What fun!! I won a beautiful arrangement by falsifying my identity.

6. Estate Sales.
7. Napping (or laying down with the intentions of napping).

11. NBA basketball games.

Really was a perfect weekend. Last night I sat by our fireplace and fell in love with the warmth of it. Winter seems to have arrived in Norman Oklahoma and if it has I am making our fireplace my new best friend!

we have a gas fireplace (this is not it, this is just an image of a gas fireplace). how do we feel about gas fireplaces?? no crakle of the wood logs...but...you don't have to wait for any embers to go out...

After much heartache and laughter seth and i ended up at laura's dead prom as half mummies half prom dates.

i even hot glued a boutonniere on seth and he tied a corsage on me...true dead prom

saturday we cruised around town for a bit. i napped. went to the game. boomer sooner. and then rushed to seth's to raid the costume box.

our costumes don't go together. it just worked out that we ended up matching. don't ask what seth is...cause i don't know but he made me laugh everytime i looked at him. i am a supposed to a cocktail waitress.

sunday the weather was beautiful.

we started the day with brunch on the back porch. cleaned seth's house and saw a movie. oh and did i mention watched a little madmen?

all in all a perfect weekend!

Everyone should check out the newest addition to Campus Corner. Birdie, the venture of Katie and Tyler Huskerson opened for business on Saturday. The store is amazing, everything in it...plants, clothing, artwork, knits, candles and much more!

It is so fun to see a friend's dream come to be. Check out the interview that pretty lady Erica Smith did with Katie.

Not only has Katie created a truly unique place to shop but Katie has done an amazing job of keeping things local and bringing her friends in to be a part of it.

Tim and Sethy have created some awesome Crimson and Cream Oklahoma shirts. Not to mention the creation of Katie's adorable logo. Lana Williams' beautiful paintings adorn the walls. . Dustbowl. This is post is long overdue but for the longest time i couldn't find the cord to upload this pics but it is found so here we are.

The whole day was absolutely amazing - from waking up at 5:30 in the morning to chasing down cars half asleep that were moving street barricades. Thank you to everyone who helped, who gave their time in setting-up, playing music, selling beautiful things and tearing-down.

Dustbowl was truly an experience I will never forget. I learned a lot. Like sleep more than 11 hours in a 72 hour time period, this will allow you to enjoy life more. Cherish your friends and family, they were instrumental in making Dustbowl a reality. Work hard, the pay off is worth it. Don't stress (too much), it will work out in the end.

The entire day was full of wonderful people browsing booths, making purchases, looking at art, meeting new people, listening to music and having fun. yay. can't wait until the next one!

Reese - collaborator of Dustbowl, creator of Tallgrass, owner of The Wild Hare. awesome guy. (Happy Birthday Reesy!!) makes beautiful things. has turned the beadery into a vision. go visit him and make something cool!

Last but not least - Pistachio. My very own little booth full of lovely jewelry, headbands, clutches, vintage finds (thanks to jolove!) and we can't forget the pi"stach"ios and cool chalk boards.

Pistachio

I have been working pretty hard on Dustbowl to make sure it is complete and utter awesomeness.

I thought I should take a second to make everyone aware of what I will be doing at said event. Pistachio is my (I would like to say future...but it seems that the future is here...so i will say newest) endeavor. It is a mix of jewelry, accessories and event design.

Jewelry and accessories are definitely a mixture of inspirations. Raw materials counter balanced by something unexpected, usually a touch of something feminine.

Events are something that I love. I think my desire and love for doing event design stems from my appreciation for beautiful things and my strong belief that something can still be functional and be full of design elements at the same time.

walking the dog...

something i do for seth, that i love to do for seth...i usually take him dinner on the nights that he works. this gives me the opportunity to see him on the long days that don't warrant me the chance to spend any quality time with him.

this all to say that tonight i decided it was a good night to take petra on a walk. i still wanted to bring seth dinner and since subway and the hospital are both in walking distance of my house i thought i would take petra on this little adventure with me (not to mention i knew seeing petra would make seth happy). i was a little worried the whole time about where i was going to tie petra up while i was inside subway but i figured it would work itself out. so we start walking and petra is already so excited she can bearly stand it. she likes to make her mark (if you know what i mean) so i was constantly stopping for her. i kept walking past her one time thinking she would be right along behind me - but she wasn't. i looked back to see why i was having to tug at her leash to get her to come and she was taking a crap in a neighbor's yard. the neighbor's yard whose car i covet, the neighbor's yard that i one day plan to knock on their door and ask them if i can rent their car (perfect green old mercedes, absolutely beautiful) for a day. so i give her a little "bad petra, bad dog" she tucks her tail and we keep walking.

we get to subway and i see one of those stands that companies usually have for you to put your cigarettes in and i think 'perfect!' something to tie petra up to. i loop her leash and put it around the cigarette stand and go inside. i am trying to be a good aunt to petra so i am asking the woman before i even order any food if i can fill a glass with water for my dog and as i say "dog" i turn to point (thinking she'll say, "oh, how cute, what's her name" and instead i get an eyeful of petra darting across the parking lot. followed by an "oh shoot" (kids were present) from me... ooo i was pissed. i literally dropped the cup i was about to fill with water for the cute little weiner and took off after her. she had pulled over the cigarette stand which was full of stones - that dog has got some muscle on her thats for sure. i find a fence to tie her too and as soon as i start to walk off she starts trying to get away which is a little trickier this time because she is attached to an entire chain link fence which i suspect was planted in concrete underneath the green grass that she was kicking up trying to get away. i once again said "no petra, bad dog" but she didn't care. i went into to get food and despite the concrete, was a little nervous she might be able to pull the whole fence down. so i kept walking over to the window while the lady was making our sandwiches (i'm sure she was annoyed). then i started to get nervous that someone was going to stop and think she was being abused, tied up to a random fence next to some miniature deserted house (if you're norman you know the one i'm talking about). when i got out there she was still trying her darndest to get away, lucky for me no one was standing by suspecting abuse. (mind you i was not abusing her, she was simply tied to a fence for all of four minutes, and i got her some water).

anyways, i was so mad at her that i decided to try and ignore her for a while (i know, a slightly juvenile move on my part, but very warranted in my opinion) but she is so dang cute, i just couldn't do it.

The last couple of days were monumentally weird for me.

1. moved my mom and mckenzie. it is just odd realizing for real that your mom and sister, who you haven't cohabitated in the same town with in years, live 5-7 minutes from your house. i know it has been like this for months now, but i think moving them-transitioning them into another place, knowing they aren't going anywhere for a while is so permanent, so comforting, so weird.

2. sister jo moved to ny. nostalgic because i did that not too long ago. nostaglic because i thought when she moved there i would be there too. nostalgic because she sounds like she is having all the fun i miss so much. (not that i don't have fun,i do! just not nyc kind of fun). nostalgic because she is my little sister and she is clearly growing up.

3. katie, reese and myself are trying to revolutionize norman (ok,revolutionize? that might be too big of a word) but we are trying get a modern day craft fair going. and although we have been working (and working hard i might add) for a couple of months now it all of the sudden feels like it is around the corner... minutes from actually happening, yes i said happening which is the key word here. it was so weird because yesterday it hit me that it is ACTUALLY HAPPENING. of course this is what we have been hoping and working for but yesterday for whatever reason i realized it is a reality. less than 3 months from now i will be waking up at the butt crack of dawn to make this thing happen. and hopefully it will become something we do more than once a year!

4. my car broke. stupid piece of...i guess i should have seen this coming. i knew it was cursed. maybe i shouldn't be writing this here because i am trying to sell it but who really reads this anyway??? no one that would want to buy my car. i think that whatever is wrong is probably the key issue when i get this fixed i can how a sound mind about selling it. but i did just fail to mention that the second i decided to truley try and sell it - things started disappearing off it, hitting it or breaking on it.

although it might seem like it and i am exhausted - i am, in fact, super happy right now. the dustbowl thing is encouraging me to do more things creatively. it is also giving me a great sense of accomplishment which is so important. plus seth is amazing. and petra slept curled up in the crook of my legs for most of last night.

it feels like summer. i finally got some face time with the sun. for some reason despite the heat and the time of year i was having trouble believing it is almost june, so much trouble i was almost denying it. but sitting in the sun, sweating the day away reminded me that summer is no longer just around the corner...it is here!

not just the seasons are changing. life is changing. jordan is moving her sweet ass to new york for no one knows how long. mckenzie is a senior. my mom finally got a job in norman. petra is back. and i decided to quit sitting around and start doing all the things i daydream about. i am very much a person who waits for my next exciting thing to occur and i decided i am going to start making them happen. not that i think i am a lazy bum. sometimes i am. but i just know that i am capable of much more.

i also realized how inspiring some of my friends are. determination. creativity. love. choices. attitudes. laughter. all these things are something i started to overlook. i became too wrapped up in my own life to observe the life that is constantly occurring around me.

i just wanted to make a statement. right now the world seems foggy. i'm not sure if it's because it's overcast here, because nothing ever seems to settle down or turn out the way you expect to or if there is a fog hanging around the heads of many of my loved ones.

i heart new york week 2009 / the good food trip

i feel as if our trip can be chronicled by the food we ate because [almost] every meal was so dang memorable aka yummy. i am going to outline our trip, not so much because i think everyone needs to know what we did but i don't want to forget. you can ignore the details if you want but these are all things that brought joy to my life so i want them to go down in history. the history of i heart new york week 2009.

day one: began with the plane ride where the little kid behind you is kicking your seat and the parents don't even care. i guess everyone has to experience this once in their life time. this was followed by the train ride into manhattan where i couldn't wipe the excited grin off my face. then the arrival to our hotel. a quaint [and when i say quaint i mean small] hampton inn. chipotle, yum, yum. a much needed nap. Rare with friends. Heath, Tessa, Michael, Kristin & Julie joined us for dinner where we ate good fries and burgers [in my case a pesto chicken burger - dang it was good]. then one of my favorite bars in manhattan...the peculiar pub. they have every type of cider you can imagine (which in our case is perfect considering we don't like beer). we caught up and played songs on the juke box. and got tired despite our nap [i guess traveling takes it out of ya.]

day two: bad continental breakfast. walk through soho and lunch with katie at grey dog where cool art: order up by Martha Gardikas hung on the walls (picture the art like 50 times it normal size). then we lugged our luggage to brooklyn and later met up with everyone at tortilla flats (one of the things i was looking forward to the most). As usual we had a grand ole time at tortilla flats. drank margaritas, played bingo and were our silly selves. tortilla flats was followed by union pool. (not really so much a pool as a cool bar :) where i talked so much to 4 of the lovely girls in my life so much that i couldn't help but find myself slightly annoyed after [because of all my talking].

day three: was meant to be a day of museums and central park. it was partly full of museums as we went to them but never through them. first we visited the guggenheim. inside (we didn't walk the mueseum, i was more interested in the architecture.) and out. we thought we were going to tour the met but i thought that seth had never been and he thought the same about me and when we got there we realized that we had both been there so we toured the gift shop instead. this was followed by a bad lunch in central park (one of those little stands where you just ordered the wrong thing because...well, they must be good at something if they are still in business right?). and the central park zoo - unplanned and slightly random but definitely a hightlight of the trip. then we visited fao schwartz where we got to see Harry Potter and his crew, anthropolgie where they never fail to amaze you with their displays and 30 rock. the day ended perfectly, good company, good soup/chili and good tv (lost! duh!). not mention exhaustion. we weren't used to walking around anymore and when i fell asleep that night, i fell hard.

day four: was another day of museums. one imparticular - the natural history museum. first stop was fred flare in fort green. we wanted to see the your message here board that a favorite blog of ours is responsible for. to our lack of planning the store wasn't even open so all we were able to walk away with (or shall i say 'walk by') was a photo. after we met heath & tessa at the shake shack for great burgers and fries and headed into the massive castle that calls itself a museum. we saw multitudes of cool, mind blowing things. crazy animals, large animals, buffalos, moose, life size giant squid and elephant seals (!), blue whales and dolphins, seahorses and dinos. lots of dinos. seth bought dry iced frozen ice cream sandwiches (which proved to be as good as one would guess). we headed to the walkers for a rest and then back out for an art opening with jersey mike. it was a photography opening where pictures hung in the this amazing space from all over the world spanning back to well...a long time ago. it was a very new yorker experience. then we walked in the pouring rain to frankie's, one of the best italian restaurants ever. our menu included some sort of parmesean and cheddar hybrid cheese, wine, meatballs, sweet potato & squash ravioli, gnocchi and then some. after our tummy's were happy we went to the backroom, a neat little speakeasy where drinks are served in coffee cups and saucers and beer in brown paper bags. the walkers met up with us there and we had a wonderful time tossing back the coffee (thats code for alcohol wink).

this was the first four days of our amazing good food trip. i will post more later. possibly just edit this one to be longer. lovelovelove the i heart new york trip 2009. i wish i could live it every week.

I used to be obsessed with this song and all the bouncy balls in the commercial for the Sony Bravia. I would watch the commercial over and over again. i can never decide what it is i love most about new york city because although i look back and sometime loath certain parts of it my heart explodes when i think about the great friends i left behind, the big buildings, the history, the endless possibilities, the memories and the love i found there.

whatever it may be i am practically counting the hours until it is mine again.

minus the bird they're not so pretty, eh? we didn't know they were 'gumballs' until today so we just called them spiky balls. they are killers to walk on. no joke. i almost broke my ankle 117 times walking on them because the entire front yard was covered in balls.

seth and i raked them up today and now own 5 massive trash bags full of 'gumballs' too bad they aren't made of sugar. :)

isn't it funny how these little creatures get into our heads? they become part of our everyday lives and actually have real little personalities that you can fall in love with.

i would like to introduce you to "petra." she is my sister's weiner. jo loves her more than anyone, unfortunately for jo petra lives with me for the time being. jo loves her so much she can't contain her escitement when it comes to petra. she squeals when she sees her, talks about her, even mentions her. so much she calls me on the phone so petra can hear her voice. the beauty of it is petra loves her just the same, she pees her pants or my carpet :) when she sees jo and can't stop kissing her face.

jo had her tonsils removed this week and i could tell that petra knew and wanted to wish her well so she wrote her a note.

do you ever feel excited as friday approaches because nothing lies ahead of you for the weekend. the unknown is thrilling because the only thing you can count on is a good night's sleep and a cup of coffee in the morning. well that is how i felt about this weekend and now i am just finding myself bored. i need to clean and do laundry but all i want is a reason to get out of my slippers and leave the house. the only thing i could think of is estate sales. i will be leaving shortly to see if either of the 2 in norman this weekend have anything promising to offer. the sad thing is that i could wear slippers to these and no one would be shooting me weird looks. cheers to lazy weekends.
